National Skill Qualification

This is a skill based certification that certifies the learner based on what he/she can be do regardless of the language of presentation, race, age and educational qualification. It is a way of improving ones’ knowledge and career goal without having to stick with the regular academic schedules.

The NSQ is a certification system is an evidence based qualification that operates under the structure of the national skill qualification frame work. The NSQF is a system that stipulates a clear direction of what each learner must be able to do (standards) regardless of how the learning takes place (formally or informally). Each of the standards are tailored to industry standards is identified, defined and developed by the sector skill council of Nigeria (comprising of employer, trade union as well as professionals).

NSQ Level and its Equivalence

There are about six level of the NSQ and each level has its set standards for a learner to pass at every level before he/she could be awarded for a particular level as agreed during the assessment plan.

Although it is a vocational training, each level of the NSQ is equivalent to a National educational system certificate

HOW DO I GET CERTIFY?
The process of getting this certification is as follows

  • Register through a NBTE training provider. Automedics is an accredited training and assessment centre the Automotive sector
  • Candidate undergoes training / assessment according to an agreed assessment plan
  • Learners gathers evidence and records with the help of the training manager/assessor
  • As assessor is assigned to the candidate to the learning to support through the assessment process from planning to giving feedback on assessment decision.
  • Internal quality assurer samples and advise appropriately
  • External quality assurer also monitors the internal quality assurer to ensure all requirements are met.
  • Certified by the Awarding Body: National Board for Technical E education (NBTE)

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
You will be assessed based on your skill in two ways

  1. Through your portfolio: this consist of evidence that has been gathered over time showing what you have done. It includes work product, Assignment, recognition of prior learning etc. the training provider as well as the assessor would help you to gather some of these evidence
  2. Observation: the assessor would watch you perform some task to ascertain you can really do them and make note on if you are competent or not. For these to take place an assessment plan would have been made with you and a feedback would also be made at the end of the assessment.
